The Exception or the Rule?

And when [God removed Saul as king], He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.” Acts 13:22

Here’s a question: If your best friend does something really, really nice for you 99 times but one time they mess up and hurt your feelings, how do you remember them? Do you remember the 99 good times or the one bad time?King David in the Bible is a great example of this. Here’s a question: If your best friend does something really, really nice for you 99 times but one time they mess up and hurt your feelings, how do you remember them? Do you remember the 99 good times or the one bad time?

King David in the Bible is a great example of this. God called David “a man after My own heart”—that means David really loved God and tried to follow Him! For most of his life, David made choices that pleased God. He wrote beautiful songs about God, he led God’s people well, and he trusted God with everything.

But David also made some HUGE mistakes. He did things that were really, really wrong—things that hurt other people and disappointed God. So here’s the question: Should we remember David by his mistakes or by his love for God?

God chose to remember David by the rule (his faithfulness) rather than the exception (his sin). Why? Because David was truly sorry for his sins and asked God to forgive him. And God looks at us the same way! When we mess up but truly say we’re sorry, God forgives us. He doesn’t hold our mistakes against us forever. He remembers that we belong to Jesus!

Think About It: How do you remember people—by their worst moments or by who they really are? If your friend broke your favorite toy once but was kind to you a hundred other times, which would you remember? When you truly say sorry, God forgives and remembers you by your heart for Him not by your mistakes. Is there someone in your life you’re judging by their mistakes instead of the good in them? Maybe it’s time to show them the same grace God shows you!

PARTNER WITH us

As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the importance of family has always been a core value in my life. I have been a pastor for decades, watching families grow and generation after generation come up in faith. That is why Bible Strong Kids is so important to me. What better legacy to leave for our children and grandchildren than to raise them up in faith, strengthening them for the journey ahead all the way into adulthood?

I hope you will join us in this endeavor to create the next generation of Bible Strong Kids—children who know their worth in God’s eyes and are equipped to shine His light in an increasingly dark world.
