Finding Real Happiness
I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. Ecclesiastes 3:12, NIV
Imagine riding on a merry-go-round at a playground. It goes around and around and around, and you’re moving, but you’re not really going anywhere! Sometimes life can feel like that—we’re busy doing stuff, but we don’t feel truly happy.
Everyone in the world is looking for happiness. We think, “If I just had that new toy, I’d be happy.” Or, “If I could just go to that place, I’d be happy.” But real happiness doesn’t come from stuff or places. Real, lasting happiness comes from knowing God and doing good things for others!
The Bible tells us that God WANTS us to be happy! But He wants us to find that happiness in Him and in doing good while we live. When you help your mom without being asked, when you share with your brother or sister, when you’re kind to someone who’s lonely—that’s when real joy bubbles up inside you! It’s not the fake happiness that goes away when the toy breaks. It’s the real kind that lasts!
Think About It: What makes you truly happy? Not just for a minute but deep-down-in-your-heart happy? Is it when you help someone? When you spend time with people you love? When you talk to God? Or is it when you get new stuff? The happy feeling from getting new stuff goes away pretty fast. But the happiness that comes from loving God and doing good to others lasts and lasts!
