Somebody once asked Jesus which commandment was the biggest one of all. Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” But then Jesus added a word that wasn’t in the original verse. He added “mind.” Heart, soul, strength, and mind. That’s every last part of you.

But how do you love God with your brain?

Romans 12:2 explains it like this: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” Did you catch that? God changes you by changing the way you think. Not just what you do, but how you think. Your thoughts are where everything starts. What you think about turns into what you want. What you want turns into what you choose. And what you choose turns into who you become.

That word “conformed” means getting squeezed into a mold, (kind of like Jell-O!) taking the shape of whatever container it’s poured into. The world is always trying to pour you into its mold, trying to get you to do what’s cool or what everybody’s doing. But loving God with your mind means letting God shape your thinking instead.

Take Action: Feed your brain something from God this week. Here’s the plan: read one verse a day, first thing in the morning, before you look at a single screen. Just one! Say it out loud, then think about it for sixty seconds. Then think, what does it say about God, and what does it say about you? Start in Psalm 119, which is a whole psalm about loving God’s Word.
