Jacob and Esau were twin brothers, and they had one of the biggest blowups in the whole Bible. Esau was the oldest brother, which in those days meant he got a special blessing from their dad, Isaac. But Jacob wanted it. So he tricked his father into giving him the blessing instead. When Esau found out, he was so furious that Jacob packed up and ran away.

Years went by. Jacob grew up, got married, had a bunch of kids, and finally decided it was time to go home. But he was TERRIFIED! He was afraid Esau was still angry. He did all sorts of things in case Esau wanted to get back at him. Jacob even sent gifts beforehand to try to make Esau less angry. And when Jacob finally saw his brother coming across the field, he bowed all the way to the ground.

Here’s the incredible part. When Esau saw his brother, he ran towards him. Not to fight, but to hug him. Years of anger, gone in about ten seconds. Esau cared more about his relationship with his brother than anything else.

The saddest part of the whole story is that Jacob and Esau lost years they could have spent together over that fight. They didn’t have to. If either one had taken the first step to make things better, they could have spent all those years together. You don’t have to wait to fix things. If something needs fixing, you should fix it today.

Take Action: Think of someone you’ve been avoiding. Maybe it’s a friend you had a fight with, or a cousin you stopped talking to. Go first. Reach out to them and say something as simple as, “Hey, I don’t like that things are weird between us.” You don’t have to have a big speech ready. Esau didn’t. He just ran and hugged his brother.
