The Fame Game

So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “The Lord is righteous.” 2 Chronicles 12:6

Lots of people want to be famous. They want to be noticed, get the most likes, and have everyone know their name. Honestly, a little bit of that is in all of us. Lots of people want to be famous. They want to be noticed, get the most likes, and have everyone know their name. Honestly, a little bit of that is in all of us. It feels good when people notice us!

But God has a different plan. His way is called humility. That means not always needing to be the center of attention.

A long time ago, a king of Israel named Rehoboam got strong and important, and he started acting like he didn’t need God anymore. Then trouble came. A huge army from Egypt marched in against him. That’s when Rehoboam and the leaders of Israel finally got it. They humbled themselves and said, “The Lord is righteous.” In other words: “God is right, and we were wrong.” And when God saw them humble themselves, He stepped in and helped them (2 Chronicles 12:7).

John the Baptist understood humility too. Crowds came from everywhere to hear him preach. But when Jesus showed up, John said, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). It’s not about me. It’s about Jesus.

Being humble looks like listening instead of always talking. It looks like letting someone else take the credit. It looks like helping when nobody’s watching. And here’s the incredible part: the Bible promises that when you humble yourself, God lifts you up (James 4:10). You don’t have to chase attention. God sees you, and that’s better than a million views.

Take Action: Do a secret mission today. Pick one kind thing to do for someone without anyone finding out it was you. Put a note in a friend’s backpack, clean up a mess you didn’t make, or make your sibling’s bed. Jesus said when you do good things in secret, your Father in heaven sees it (Matthew 6:4). Don’t tell anyone—not even later!

PARTNER WITH us

As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the importance of family has always been a core value in my life. I have been a pastor for decades, watching families grow and generation after generation come up in faith. That is why Bible Strong Kids is so important to me. What better legacy to leave for our children and grandchildren than to raise them up in faith, strengthening them for the journey ahead all the way into adulthood?

I hope you will join us in this endeavor to create the next generation of Bible Strong Kids—children who know their worth in God’s eyes and are equipped to shine His light in an increasingly dark world.
