What’s in a Name?
And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.” Luke 1:19
Do you know what your name means? Lots of names have special meanings. Many parents choose a name because of what it means or because it reminds them of someone they love. The Bible tells us the names of only a few angels. Two of God’s mighty angels are named Michael and Gabriel.
Michael means “Who is like God?” That’s a question with an easy answer: nobody! Michael is called “the archangel” (Jude 9), which means a chief angel or leader angel. He’s like a mighty general who leads heaven’s armies and protects God’s people (Daniel 12:1).
Gabriel means “strength of God.” Gabriel is God’s messenger. He’s the angel who told Zacharias that he and his wife, Elizabeth, would have a baby named John. And he’s the one who told Mary she would be the mother of Jesus!
So Michael is like God’s strong arm, and Gabriel is like God’s voice. Each one has a special job.Guess what? You do too! God knows your name, and He has a purpose for your life. You don’t have to be an angel to have an important job from God. Isaiah 43:1 says, “I have called you by your name; you are Mine.”
Take Action: Find out what your name means! Ask your parents why they chose your name—there might be a great story behind it. Then, with a grown-up’s help, look up what your name means. Write your name and its meaning on a piece of paper. Underneath, write, “God knows my name and has a plan for me!”

PARTNER WITH us
As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the importance of family has always been a core value in my life. I have been a pastor for decades, watching families grow and generation after generation come up in faith. That is why Bible Strong Kids is so important to me. What better legacy to leave for our children and grandchildren than to raise them up in faith, strengthening them for the journey ahead all the way into adulthood?
I hope you will join us in this endeavor to create the next generation of Bible Strong Kids—children who know their worth in God’s eyes and are equipped to shine His light in an increasingly dark world.
